Farewell to Dawn

The Ladies section said farewell to Dawn today as she embarked on retirement. On her last day working at Donnington Grove Country Club, we wished her well and we hope that Dawn will continue to join the Ladies section in their social events and adventures. Best wishes to you Dawn.

Ladies Xmas Golf : Take 2!!

On Sunday, the Ladies Xmas Golf : Take 2!event took place. A great variety of xmas jumpers were worn and the ladies played 9 holes of silver ball (really yellow ball but with a silver golf ball!) before retiring to the clubhouse for some mulled wine and mince pies. Sue Foote & Sarah Purvis won the second prize with 27 points but the winners with 32 points were Lorraine Storey & Maria Tillett. Well done to everyone who took part.

Ladies Xmas Golf & Lunch : Take 1

On Monday, 26 ladies enjoyed our annual Ladies Xmas Golf & Lunch event.

Actually, the golf didn’t happen due to poor weather conditions but nevertheless a visit from Santa, Rudolph, Elf and a surprise Fairy dismissed any disappointment when they distributed the secret santa gifts.

We welcomed some guests including a past member, a previous ladies club champion, two past ladies captains (including Maija Myers, our very first one) and some good friends.

A festive lunch in the Cloudy room was followed by a xmas quiz which was won by Sue Kingham and guest Helen Huish.

Look out for Ladies Xmas Golf : Take 2!!

Lorraine & Jean Secure A European Win!!

Lorraine Storey & Jean Raincock joined forces with 2 other ladies to play in the 2017 Golf4Women Winter Golf Festival at the Desert Springs Resort in Spain recently.
Anne-Marie Gane also played in the tournament alongside previous Donnington Grove member Dee Tomlinson and 2 other ladies.
The festival was a 5 day competition with a different format each day : texas scramble, greensomes, bowmaker, fourball betterball and individual stableford with 14 teams taking part.

Anne-Marie’s team came out top after Round 1 with Lorraine & Jean’s team finishing 3rd.
Round 2, the Donnington Grove teams came joint 6th but in Round 3 L&J’s team stormed in to the lead by winning the bowmaker event by 18 points!
Round 4 was again won by Anne-Marie’s team with L&J’s team finishing second.

All the hard work had been done and L&J finishing the final round in 11th place didn’t alter their top position.

Anne-Marie’s team (aka Las Amigas) came 2nd with 261 points overall.

And so the Desert Dream Team 2017 is Lorraine Storey, Jean Raincock with Elaine Robinson & Susan Hadden (aka The Happy Hookers!) with 271 points!

Well done girls for flying the Donnington Grove flag in Europe!

Melanie Crowned Most Improved Lady Golfer in Berkshire!

The Berkshire County Ladies Golfing Association awards a Handicap Reduction Trophy to the lady reducing her handicap by the most from the beginning of February until the end of October each year.

Donnington Grove Country Club nominated Melanie Millin as she had reduced her handicap by an impressive 8.3.

Congratulations to Melanie who has won this county trophy for 2017! All that hard work and practise has been rewarded.
